Each year, hundreds of students gather at Rugby Polo Club for the epitome of the university season, The SUPA University Winter National Championships. Between 6 – 9 February, 202 teams competed in weather from all four seasons across 26 leagues for the coveted silverware. Nottingham were the overall winners, picking up four division titles: Novice 1, Novice 2, Novice 3 and Novice 4 Blue, but every university had impressive turn out, with numbers once again up this year.
The Polo Times Best Playing Pony rug was awarded to Corita, a lovely bay mare, owned by Druids Lodge Polo Club, who played her heart out over the four days. This year’s Most Valuable Player, awarded a delicious bottle of our British Polo Gin Sloe Gin, was Abby Grant from St Andrews University, whilst Cameron Bee was named Most Improved Player, and earned himself a pair of new kneepads, courtesy of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers.
